Gombe Stream National Park is one of Tanzania’s smallest parks, covering approximately 35 km², but it is world-renowned for its chimpanzee research and conservation. It was made famous by Jane Goodall, who started her pioneering studies on chimpanzee behavior here in the 1960s.
The park consists of forests, steep valleys, and rivers that create a rich habitat for wildlife. Besides chimpanzees, visitors may also spot olive baboons, red colobus monkeys, and a variety of birds and reptiles. The park offers walking safaris and chimpanzee tracking, giving visitors the rare opportunity to observe primates in their natural habitat.
Gombe is an intimate and specialized safari destination, ideal for wildlife enthusiasts, primatologists, and photographers who want to experience Tanzania beyond the classic savannah safaris. Its small size and rugged terrain mean trips are focused on trekking and nature observation, rather than game drives.
