Udzungwa Mountains National Park covers approximately 1,990 km² and is a UNESCO World Heritage site candidate thanks to its rich biodiversity and endemic species. It is often called the “African Galápagos” because of its unique plants and animals found nowhere else on Earth.
Unlike other parks focused on vehicle safaris, Udzungwa is a hiker’s paradise — known for its waterfalls, tropical rainforests, and mountain trails. The most popular route is the Sanje Waterfall Trail, leading to a spectacular 170-meter waterfall with panoramic views of the Kilombero Valley below.
Wildlife includes rare primates such as the Udzungwa red colobus and Sanje mangabey, along with elephants, duikers, and hundreds of bird species. It’s ideal for travelers who love nature walks, photography, and ecotourism rather than traditional game drives.
